Come In! Cusorcowboy revisit of Win Error reporting.

This error scenario is bugging me, now have what I presume to be full ID of error reports.

Ok! have looked for MS ID numbers but they all appear to lead me to errors in NT not XP?
We had a very large whoopseeee on January 7th? when Norton froze a lot of PC's by error if we were using a certain programme in XP. Had to back out by turning off power and lost everything and had to reinstall from H\Drive and back up CD. Windows Money became a nuisance popping up every time I opened XP, after several attempts at disabling the darned thing, lost my cool and trashed it. Please dont ask me how (through "regedit") I think!!
What can you make of this? is it possible to get rid of the error and warning events. As an added extra I have lost Adobe Photoshop 6 and also a CD labelling programme iCD CoolBeLa which I am not overly concerned about. Thanks in anticipation.

Way out of my league.

1. Error Severity Description (Message Text) where %d and %l both equals Decimal integer values, and %s equals a Character string for certain event codes, but these are not equal to the %x reflected in results when accessing the Microsoft TechNet site, "Windows XP Events and Errors" and entering an ID number:

1001 Line %d: Length or precision specification %d is invalid.
1002 Line %d: Specified scale %d is invalid.
1003 Line %d: %ls clause allowed only for %ls.
1004 Invalid column prefix '%.*ls': No table name specified

2. Please read through the W2K article, "Frequently Asked Questions About Windows Installer" to see if anything makes any sense -- since there is little I find written about "MSiInstaller" for WinXP, and about Event messages" here.

probably has some good news. Please read the section titled, "Step by Step - How to use msicuu.exe" in the Microsoft document, "Using the Windows XP support tools (Part 2)." Note the example given in step #3 for removing an CLSID.

I would even go so far to suggest you download "Registry | EasyCleaner 2.0.6.369", a small free program which searches Windows' registry for entries that are pointing nowhere. From that site:

Note: This BETA has NOT been 110% tested like it should but it should work better that the 1.7f release especially in Windows XP/ME. This release SHOULD be totally harmless in Windows NT/2000/XP and Windows 95/98/ME. Do not download if you are uncomfortable with beta software.

Having looked at all your info and inwardly digested the content and it would appear that I have two options.
1 Keep on running with a damaged registry which at the moment does not cause any problems.
2 Back up all files, folders C: drive etc and reboot the whole of XP with a set of HP reboot discs and take it from there.
Question will the reboot discs rectify the problem in the registry?

why not try the registry cleaner and simply see if it doesn't pickup on #1 and #2 as being simply lost keys - that point no where.

Not to long ago I decided to remove WinFax which I hadn't used in years on Win98. Later - a day or two, when running the cleaner, I couldn't believe the junk that had been left behind simply doing nothing. I would have assumed the programmers would have done a better job with their uninstall.

Have downloaded the Registry Easy Cleaner and am working my way through the various functions, thus far with this program I have found a few errors etc which I did not realise existed. Time and a modicum of patience with the program will tell.
I do have a feeling that the problem is linked to an updated MS Installer somehow.
Thanks, Will post after trial completed.

Good morning, thanks for the postings Bill will deseminate the info and post you the results in due course. Thanks for your time and knowledge it is much appreciated.
Maybe I should not have allowed my frustration to get the better of me and not thrown the toys out of the sand pit, well, maybe not quite so far. In the meantime have picked up some info from TheElderGeek?
on manually uninstalling programs, just for future reference. Regards
