Dear Coryphaeus?
There's a thread a while back RE: Comcast willingly and without a court order divulging a woman's personal information to a recording company or something similar so they could try to collect ~$5K worth of damages on songs she "pirated" from the Internet. I just read it-so I got where this guy was coming from..However, to the writer... NT, sweetie, it's in the wrong place!
Since Comcast's name keeps coming up,though, and I just read another post by some guy who wrote in about not being able to get hi-speed Internet,I'm going to toss in a question now about a different issue that this reminded me of. I hope I don't confuse things further. If I do I'm sorry...
I bought a new condo in Vancouver WA outside of Portland OR about 3 years ago. Unknown to me or any other homeowners at the time, the builder made a secret deal with ATT Broadband-now Comcast-that they would have exclusive rights to all cable and digital TV and phone service at the condo complex in exchange for laying the cable and wiring for free or very cheaply.
Now Comcast refuses to rent the lines to any other company, not just for cable TV and/or broadband access but for DSL as well-so we are stuck with Comcast's outrageous fees or nothing! Earthlink recently offered me 6 months of DSL for $20 per month and I can't get it because of this..Nor can we get any other regular phone service-the only thing the FCC mandates choice on is long distance.
Does anyone out there know of any way we can get out of this mess short of the courts? Ever experienced anything similar? Please respond if you have because we are pretty darn peeved!
Thanks!!
PS In Washington the builder/declarant is the acting head of the Homeowner's Association until 100% of the units are built, sold and inhabited at least once. So he was "acting" as the head of the HOA when he made this deal. Now, tho' he has bailed on this part of the project and joined a new company to finish the last 3 phases-so he has no ties to our HOA any more.
