Comcast Modem Problems

Dec 3, 2012 1:02AM PST

I bought a Arris WBM760A Modem from Amazon to use with Comcast Xfinity. I got the activation kit from Comcast and the modem is not working. I called Comcast to troubleshoot and they said it could be my modem or it could be an issue with my cable. Before I shell out $50 for Comcast to come out to my house is there anything I can do to try and get the modem to work?

If this is a new install the tech has to check power levels which I find most folk don't have the gear as that device is over 1,000 bucks. You also don't have access to the cable system to adjust this.

It's a crap shoot if a new install will work. If the old modem works (you didn't tell) then they didn't provision the cable network for your new device. But you didn't tell if the old modem works or not.

Comcast Modem Help

I just bought the house so this is a new install. I don't know if the modem works. I just bought it off of Amazon and attempted to use it with the Comcast with no luck.

No reason it should work then. Be sure to have someone else check the MAC address and your install work.

Just a story. I went to a friend's house on a similar issue. For some odd reason the cable modem was after 2 SPLITTERS! I removed the splitters and it fired right up. They had to re-think their choice of splitters. Such are not created equal and many are not bidirectional.

That's stuff covered by techs that do this a lot along with the all important power meter.
