Comcast Broadband (Everett WA) Dies over time...

Oct 2, 2005 7:44AM PDT

It started a couple of weeks ago. My connection speed would slowly die over time. To the point where I coudln't even load webpages. I would then go downstairs unplug the modem and then router; then turn them back on in the same order. Right after doing this I was wizzing around at top speed.

Then, of course, I had to watch as my connection speed dropped over the course of about a day until I could no longer even browse the web....

What the **** is going on here?

Thanks for any help Happy

"router" bingo.

While you didn't reveal the make, model and firmware version of said router, the effect is well known and often cured by updating the router's firmware. SPYWARE is also a known cause.

Didn't Work
Oct 3, 2005 6:31PM PDT

I updated my firmware on my router and I am experience the same problem. The connection speed slowly drops over the course of a few days. Curently I have removed the router from the equasion all together and have a single machine hooked up to the modem.

I would also like to point out that I have a linksys switch on the network as well: Model EZXS55W Thought I can't quite see how that would effect anything I thought I would mention it.

Are you using any P2P apps? Here's why.
Oct 4, 2005 12:42AM PDT

Some of the ISPs are now using IP SHAPING software to tailor bandwidth to give precedence to browser and degrade P2P use. You only gave a hint you may be complaining about P2P speeds degrading over time so I can only guess that is your issue.

The ISP may or may not reveal this.

Hope this helps you understand the issue.

Maybe...

I do use Bit Torrent from time to time but the issue that I am having is across the board. It gets to the point where I can't even browse the web...

...Even if I am not using P2P softare.

Does EWIDO find anything?
Oct 4, 2005 5:16AM PDT

My shot is this combo.

Get WINSOCKXPFIX first (needed to fix winsock after spyware removal), then run EWIDO and eject all it finds.

At this point we are clean as can be.
