In this question -> What DVD player software are you using?

Hint: It's not named Nero or WMP.

-> Test again with VLC PLAYER please.

Combo drive not working with DVd
by davecar54smith / August 8, 2008 7:56 AM PDT

The combo drive is on an HP Pavillian, the original software is Windvd,Nero, and Power DVD.
I recently had a Virus and had everything taken off & reloaded.
Everything else work's fine but was not able to reload windvd.
Is there somewhere I can possibly download recent drivers?
Thank's for your response.

"windvd" is NOT A DRIVER.

In fact DVD player software is never supplied as a driver.

I think you found the issue, cause, and fix. Go get VLC PLAYER to play DVDs till you sort out your windvd issue.

Iinstalled a new drive and it is still the same, Windows Media Player and VLC have sound but no picture. Nero and Power DVD have picture but broken sound.
Someone mentioned that I may have a CODEC problem but I have no idea what that mean's. Does anyone have any input on that?
Thanks fo all your input.

VLC has all the needed CODECs.

But maybe there's something you haven't shared about the machine. Does it have TWO VGA connections on it? If so the DVD video is likely on the other connection.

There is only one VGA connection. It's a HP510n running with XP Svc Pack 2

In reply to: Is this your machine?

Thank's Bob, I down loaded the drivers that pertained to the combo drive but still the same.
You are right in that I recently had a virus problem and took it in to the shop where they did do a reinstall.

Just to repeat if need be. There is NO DVD DRIVER that will fix this. Since VLC PLAYER does not play DVDs the issue is somewhere else. I only have your post to work with and I have to take your word there is ONE and only one VGA connection on the machine. I will note the DVI connection is considered a VIDEO connection too but some won't report this.

At least you know where your machine's drivers are and can work that issue.

Sometimes it's the "keep on trying" that pays off. Keep at it and you'll save hundreds compared to those that always head to the repair counters.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
