Question

Combining 3 buildings networks, each with their own internet

Jun 16, 2015 6:07AM PDT

As the subject says, I have 3 buildings in a straight line. Each one a 1/4 mile from the other, with the main building being in the center.
It is open air without obstructions between, so I am probably going to at least experiment with long ranged WiFi, to avoid the cost of fiber and terminations.

Thoughts on that so far?

Most importantly though, I am questioning, how to accomplish tying these 3 networks together to achieve a singular network, while either being able to have their own internet, or globally haring the internet? No one location has enough bandwidth to cover all three buildings.

Answer
Looks commercial.

Time to call up Cisco and such companies to get quotes and such.

Not commercial, family houses

My family houses are the three. My mom on one end, and my sisters family on the other, and my family in the center. Looking at sharing not only internet, but local files as well.

Still a commercial grade problem.

You won't get this from Best Buy. It will take a network planner, a little hard core gear and setup.

If you want to learn networking, that's great but once in a while a new to network person pops up and thinks this is done with consumer gear. Sure but it rarely works as well as say your ISP connections.

Good luck in your trials.
