And if you don't read the discussion, do check with the school for their deal. At the local schools not only do they get a fair price, but 4 years of repair and support. Consumers would kill for this.

I need to get my daughter a notebook for the Fall term. Any recommendations?
I had looked at the Dell 6000d but are there better alternatives? The school has ethernet access and no specially needed access software. Does anybody recommend that the notebook also be wireless? I figure MS Small Business package is the best productivity software for her. Any recomendations on a backup system? Any help would be appreciated.

I would DEFINITLY get the wireless, many campuses are starting to implement them all over.
If she wants to take it to class and use it all over campus I would not suggest a really heavy desktop replacement. At the sime time the thin and light notebooks suck for performance anything. Dell is a little expensive but is known for service. Check out what HP has to offer, as well as toshiba.
I think wirless is necessary, because more and more school now have wireless, it's convenient.
I think the computer you choose is suitable.
