College Laptop - Advice Needed!!

by mlberman520 / August 22, 2006 4:21 AM PDT

I've just started browsing for a laptop for college. I need a lightweight portable laptop which I would use for the internet (I need a wireless laptop), Word, Excel, and itunes. I'm interested in the Apple MacBook (the white version with a superdrive), and the Dell Latitude 620. I really love the MacBook, but I've also been advised to go with the Dell due to software issues. Any advice would be helpful - thank you!

i am also seriously considering the Latitude D620. the D620 is very cheap, its durable, it has core duo, you can get a sweet 256mb video card, it can come w/ a fingerprint scanner, bluetooth, and its very portable, starting at 4.5 lbs. it has great security features and i think the black and silver case looks way cooler than the whit mac. Also, tell me what your budget is. (i assume its around 1500$)

how much music are you planning on storing, a few hundred or a few thousand? are you gonna use it for gaming? if so, light gaming or heavy gaming. do you have a preference of different Operating Systems? is xp home fine for you or do you need xp media center. would you want to be able to play dvds? how about burning cds? you probably want to be able to conect to a wireless network if you are going into college

If you get a Dell, make sure you select XP Pro, as most campus networks require it.

Check your school's requirements.
