College Intranet

by LezaBerlin / November 16, 2006 2:47 AM PST

Hi there.

I was wandering if somebody could help me.

When i access my college intranet, it won't allow me to view my emails or lecture notes etc. I can access the homepage, but even that does not show the pictures and just shows a small icon with a red X through it. All the pages just have the screen 'The page cannot be displayed'.

I have tried deleting the cookies, changing the settings back to default but it just won't work.

Any suggestions people?

Leza,

Something wrong, but it's difficult to say what exactly. One would have to know the details of that site to make a guess, such as where the pictures are, and how the other pages are reached. Generally, this is something with the hosts file, spyware or other add-on active or incorrectly removed, a javascript or security problem, bad settings or bad functioning of your internet security software or something with your ISP. It could very well be a (temporary) problem at the college website also, and that will be solved without you doing anything.

If it's a laptop, just take it to the helpdesk tomorrow, and see what they can find out.
If it's a desktop, call them, describe the problems and try their suggestions. If that doesn't help put the case into your car and take it with you, so they can have a go at it. It really helps to have the machine at hand when examining problems like this, IF it is a problem with your machine (which isn't proven at all at the moment).

An important detail they surely are interested in: what changed since it last worked? That's kind of a clue, sometimes.

Good luck,

Kees

No, I can't.

I get a popup asking for a username and password. And you really shouldn't tell yours to anybody.

So the advice stays: contact them for help.

That link.......
by MarkFlax Forum moderator / November 16, 2006 5:46 PM PST

That link is an https web page. The "s" in the https denotes this is a secure web page and so only people with valid usernames and passwords can access it.

As this is a college intranet I assume your computer is on campus, and so any problems you have accessing the site, or emails, or any difficulties with images on the site should be passed on to your College's web site administrator.

Good luck.

Did you download the evil IE7 by any chance? It depends on what email system your school uses, but you can bet pretty much anything that isn't Exchange will not yet work with IE7.
You're best bet is to talk to the tech people at your school.

Good Luck!
