College internet slow

Oct 10, 2005 4:24PM PDT

The internet at my college is relativlet uselsess due to restrictions is ports and other restrictions that i am probably unaware of. Most importantly it does not allow me to ftp files from my home computer to school at any reasonable speed because they have even blocked port 21. This is essential for my schoolwork as i am a film editing major and often have to ftp large movie files from home to college. Is there anyway i can overcome this problem. Thanks everyone have a great day.

PS: If it matters i am hardlined to the internet using a dell inspiron 9300.

Contact your college's IT department...

If the restrictions are set by the college, the only way to can use the blocked ports is if you receive an override/bypass from the IT department. If you provide a valid reason/explanation of why you need additional access/privileges they should be able/willing to give such to you based on your MAC address. (For instructions on how to find your MAC address click here.) Aside from that, an external hard drive or DVD+/-RWs are about your only options.

Hope this helps,
John
