Codes on download pages

Nov 28, 2006 11:32AM PST

Hi;
I have been wondering why there are URL codes on the download pages? I realize they are for putting on a website or for referring people to the product and where to download it, but is this for an affiliate or referral program? I am a member of CNET, does that also mean I am an affiliate? Or does CNET not have an affiliate and/or referral program?
I did look for the answer in the forum discussions but only got something about the war in Iraq, so any help would be greatly appreciated,

RE: Codes on download pages...

While being a member of Cnet and/or using those links does not make you an affiliate the latter would make you an unpaid referrer. (Some sites pay for such referrals by the general public but Cnet does not.) The tradeoff is that while the links on your website help increase traffic to Cnet you can display a familiar image linked to a trusted source of freeware and shareware. Cnet also recently introduced Cnet member badges, the code for which is now available through the member profiles which serve a similar purpose.

So Sorry I am So Late!!!
May 11, 2007 3:44PM PDT

Hi John!

Please forgive me for being so late in answering this, I never got an email telling me there was a response, looks like I forgot to click the box below!!!!

I just wanted you to know I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question!

I think that it it is a pretty good trade off! But I was just curious!!

I will now try to find one of the badges that you were telling me about...if I have as much luck as I did finding and answering you then I should have one by 2009 or 2010!!!

Thanks Again!

Here's a link...

You can click here, while logged in, for the code and a preview of what the badge looks like. I just wish the background was transparent and not white...it makes it look a little awkward on colored backgrounds.

Here is Your Almost Transparent Badge!!!
May 12, 2007 3:28AM PDT

Hi Again John!!

I appreciate the extra help so much, thank you!! I don't suppose I would have found it because I was all over my profile and never saw it earlier!

I have taken my badge and put your name and URL on it and made it Almost transparent for you!!! The reason I say almost transparent is because I took all of the white off of the right hand side of the badge but the left hand side is still white because that side of the badge comes from an image URL and not a code.

I put your entire name on it but if you don't want that you can look at the code and change the name to what you want it to be. It also goes to your profile!

If you really want it changed and do not know how just post to me again with your code and the name that you want it to be and I will change it for you!

Hope that you enjoy it and again...Thank You!!!

Sage!!
