The Nazi's were always so funny in WWII films and tv shows. Plus the camps were clean and the prisoners always had plenty of food to eat.
Just thought I would point out there -is- a famous codename 'Tom'. As depicted in 1963 movie 'The Great Escape', starring--among others--Steve McQueen and James Garner, allied POW airmen in the Stalag Luft III camp, dug three tunnels codenamed 'Tom', '****', and 'Harry'.
Unfortunately 'Tom' was discovered by the Germans, and destroyed, while 'Harry' was completed, and on the night of March 24-25, 1944, helped 76 allies escape the camp. Eventually 23 were recaptured, 50 executed by orders of Hitler, and only 3 made it to safety.
The escape, however, fulfilled its purpose, and during that time these men on the run used up thousands of German policemen, soldiers, and Hitler Youths, causing quite a stir for the Germans.
I very much recommend anyone with an interest in cinematography or history to watch 'The Great Escape'. It's supposed to be very true to what actually happened, and is most certainly a great piece of film history.
Cheers.
