cnet tracker"error contacting server"

I had installed cnet tracker free and when i scanned it keeps giving me an error message not able to connect to server apapi - i am registered - it also tells me i have many updates but it cannot update-- whats the deal? is this just something that you download to scan and when you need to update you need to purchase something? if that's the case it is not stated anywhere which would lead me to believe it is a switch and bate scam-- please let me know it isn't so especially for cnet.. otherwise i see a class action suit again.
