Resolved Question

CNET Tech-Tracker indirectly responsible

Nov 7, 2011 5:30AM PST

Installed CNET Tech-Tracker, ran scans, updated those apps that were out of date. What resulted was a reconfiguration of my toolbars, a few pop-up advertisements, my search window was changed from Google to Bing, and when I open a new tab I get a blank page with a Bing search window on it.

I resent the commercialization of these program updates.

I killed the pop-up's, I changed my search window back to Google, but I don't know how to eliminate the Bing thing on my (blank) screen when I open a new tab.

Thank you for any assistance.

...an idea
Nov 7, 2011 9:24AM PST

I have an app on my computer called "Ad Blocker." I opened a new tab and within the Bing search window that appeared on the blank screen, I right-clicked and chose "use Adblock to filter this frame."

It worked, though it's only a band-aid approach. I'd still appreciate any assistance you can offer to eliminate this situation. Thanks.

Have you looked . . .

in the FF Add-ons? Click Tools, Add-ons. Question again, have you looked in Add/Remove?

Since I don't use tabs I can't advise on tab usage.

Add/Remove???
Nov 7, 2011 9:28PM PST

In the places I've looked, I have not seen the option of add/remove, but that doesn't mean anything! I'm not sure where you would have me find this option. It's certainly not something posted on the blank page where the Bing window shows up. Thanks, by the way, for your responses.

Add/Remove . . .

in the Control Panel where you can remove installed programs. See if it's there.

In FF, open Tools, Add-ons, click Extensions or Plug-ins. Tools, Options, look at the Applications tab.

Thank you. I was able to identify the cryptic verbiage that described this sneaky thing, and eliminate it. Thanks for helping me along.
