Did You Mean 'NOT'
Feb 20, 2006 8:55PM PST

I think you meant your subject to say "not" instead of "now." There's definitely a difference. Oh and "hear" is a matter of listening. "Here" is a matter of place.

That said, I use Firefox on a Mac and haven't had any problems with the c|net site. What page in particular is an issue for you? Do you have any Firefox extensions installed that might be causing the problem?

I'm confused -- your headline says Cnet is *now* open source friendly -- is that a typo and you meant to say "not"?

I use only Firefox, and I have not had any trouble with C-Net, except occasionally I have to click a couple of times to get a video to play. I can't tell, from where I sit, if that's a Firefox problem or just a lag in my ISP.

Can you share specific problems you're having on specific pages?

problem
Feb 21, 2006 3:11AM PST

when i logged on to the podcast.cnet.com page the page was pitch black .the only thing i could see was the links in blue .

i seriously doubt that its my isp coz most other pages render properly and i have tried to get to the page in safe mode so it can't be the extensions , by the way i'am using xp service pack two

I can't replicate it either

I have used Mozilla Suite, SeaMonkey and Firefox all over CNET today and have had no issues.

Can you tell us anything more?

If you highlight the black podcast page does the text show up? Maybe it's not rendering the CSS correctly.

Are you blocking 3rd party images? ("Load images for the originating web site only")

I don't know . . .

I went to the podcast page. It looks fine to me. What version of Firefox are you using? Have you done any customization as to font size or color or anything like that? I don't know enough about CSS to totally understand the coding on that page, so I can't tell what might be affecting it, but it doesn't seem to just be Firefox, since it looks fine to me.

A possibility or two
Feb 22, 2006 1:17AM PST

I'm not getting this problem, either, but I can think of one or two things that might be causing it, one of which is very unlikely.

1. You have recently updated Firefox, without first clearing the folder completely first, as well as removing your profile folder and information. In the past, updating Firefox simply like this has been known to cause the render engine to properly render HTML.

2. This is the very unlikely one, as you can probably see the other images on the website. Somehow *.com.com has been blocked in your HOSTS file, in your machine. Some time ago, users of Kazaa Lite had problems over at e.g. GameSpot, because the software altered the HOSTS file, and blocked i.com.com, or images.com.com, I believe.

Either way, I hope you figure out what's up.

weird.

I use FF at home, and at work. I've never had any trouble! Are you updated to the most recent version (not that it should really make a difference, but that's all I can think of...)

Here's what's really weird
Feb 21, 2006 2:35AM PST

Here's the really weird thing, and it has nothing to do with the content of this thread. I posted a reply to the OP this morning. It hasn't shown up, but the thread counter says there are five messages but is only showing 4. My message has been caught in some alternate universe I guess. Maybe in that alternate universe I like the forum software c|net uses. Wink
