Why do these not linked at the bottom of messages?

Seems to me that they use to. Very annoying to back space a bunch to get to top of thread. Otherwise site is VERY useful and moderators VERY good!

...will only be highlighted/linked when the thread has become long enough that a second page is necessary. When the second page is needed, the "Next Page" will be a link to ....the next page. Once at the next page, the "Previous Page" link will take the user back to......the previous page. Once at the second page, the "Start of Thread" will also be highlighted so the user can return to....the beginning.

For example, here's and extremely long thread in the "Speakeasy" forum:
