If it's given you an IP address

go to Start/Run and type "ipconfig" (without quotes). You should see an entry for "gateway". That's the router's address on your network. Open a browser and type into the address window "http://(router address)" using format such as http://192.168.1.254 (or whatever the gateway address is). This should bring up the router's web interface.

Other Information Needed As Well.. Just Making Sure...
Feb 15, 2009 9:16AM PST

Just making sure here... You mention that you bought a router but you don't state what type of internet connection you have. In order to connect to a broadband internet connection, you first need to have a modem which plugs into the wall jack using the standard DSL or Caqble connection cables. (Coaxial or RJ-11 telephone cable.). From the modem, you would then use an ethernet cable to connect to the router..

Have you done those things and if so let us know the specifics of how you've done them.. The more information you give us, the better informed our answers will be.

Hope this helps.

Use the default IP address and password

You don't need to get to the Internet to get to the router's webpage. The router is always accessible from any computer on the "downside" of it by going to the IP address of that webpage.

I looked up the info for your CNIG-914 router, so enter this into the address field of your browser:
http://192.168.1.1 (you can even click on what I just said)
Once there, you should see a User name field, enter admin
Then in the Password field enter admin

Those are the default answers for those fields, and unless someone has changed them, they should be correct.

Once you get past that sign-on you will be able to manipulate quite a few things on that router.
However, typically, those settings should be in some usable configuration, at least enough to allow you to connect through the router and out to the Internet.
That is, as long as your computer is set to obtain an IP address automatically from that router.
I suspect that something else is amiss. Perhaps your modem (be it DSL or cable) is not setup correctly, or perhaps your ISP service is not working.

Have you talked to the Support of your ISP service?
