How can I stop the crappy cnet installer program? Everytime I want to download something I have to download the piece of adware first. Whats up with you lot?

You don't have to.

Underneath the big download button is a small "direct download" link. If you click that, you download the program without that cnet installer.

And, of course, most software can be downloaded from the makers site and tucows. In fact, I've never downloaded from cnet myself, because it uses a site (dw.com.com) that happens to be blocked in my hosts file.

cnet installer a deal breaker
Dec 5, 2011 10:28AM PST

What has cnet done? absolutely unacceptable hijacking of my computer.

I asked to download software but had to first install cnet's "installer" - started and finally cancelled because it went wild downloading multiple obscure/nonsense named files.

Yes I could click on direct download link but still got some kind of net installer, NOT the software package I was trying to download.

There is enough trash out there without cnet putting God knows what on my computer.

For me, cnet has been a standard resource for years - no longer.
