Years ago, companies like that would get "interns" to create such things. The budget of this person must be none so they might look at the intern method.

Someone I know wants his company to do a sort of monthly news zine type of publication. But he doesn't want to employ a designer to do it for them each month. He claims that he has seen a system in some other place, where they have some kind of content management system that lets them automatically fill "templates" with text and pictures, for print, without having to actually use professional DTP software like Indesign.
He says he's spoken to a couple of designers already and they told him it's impossible, but he doesn't believe them.
I have worked in magazine publishing for 10 years, as a graphic designer, and I have NO idea what he's on about. My first instinct is to tell him again, that this is impossible. He can get an Indesign template if he wants, but then his secretary will have to learn to use Indesign, no?
Well I figured I'd ask around first.
Is there really such a software? Something like a CMS, but not for websites but for printed publications?
