Question

CMOS battery failure within 2 months

Mar 3, 2014 12:52PM PST

my MB is intelDG41WV, with Windows7-64bit. in January the system displayed message "CMOS Battery Failure" at the boot and resets the date and time to its default, after few days it started to take some time to boot-up. i replaced the battery by new one (maxell). after that the system works fine. but from yesterday it starts again to display the same message and resets the time, means CMOS battery has been discharged within 3 months...! so i need to know is it possible or is this a signal for motherboard failure? this is not happen any time the system turned on. it happens when turning on the system in next day probably. because i turn the system on in the morning and hibernate or turn off the system several time in the day.......... thanks

i bought the motherboard before 2 years. the bios reset to the date 2009-01-01.
i should be emphasis that this is not happened at any time the system boots up. it happens some times only. this is also a problem for me. because i think if it is a CMOS battery failure why this not happened in any time?

It happens when the new battery wasn't all that good or there are other issues. One such issue was an overtaxed power supply. The theory is the power supply was too noisy and the CMOS values were corrupted on startup. Mind you the client won't pay for deep failure analysis but replacing the power supply with a double sized unit fixed it.

But yes to your question. However I'd try another battery and if that fails I'd ask your tech to create a better battery. I had a machine that would drain the battery in months so we replaced the CR2032 with a dual AA battery holder. That held up for years.
