Question

Cloud Storage and Encyption

Apr 3, 2015 12:16PM PDT

Thank you for your time

Im very excited by Amazon's Cloud Drive Solution and pricing however Im not sure ive found a suitable solution to store my files as securely as I would like

Could someone suggest an application that will do the following:

1 will work with Amazon Cloud Drive
2 Allow me to designate a set of directory's or whole drive to backup
3 Allow me to encrypt contents with at least AES 265 and obscure file names while providing client side encryption (sorry Amazon I just don't trust you not to hand over the keys)
4 Upload contents on a scheduled basis (bonus if I can set a monthly data limit)
5 Monitor my directories' or drives for changes and upload and new content

The following solutions Ive looked at and are not suitable BoxCryptor / EncFS

Due to limited storage space on my system I cannot devote a separate folder or virtual drive in which to store my "encrypted files"

Solutions which look good if they supported Amazon Cloud drive 'fastglacier'

This looks like a really really REALLY great product but only seems to support Amazon Glacier not Amazon Cloud drive, I have written to them for clarification but are still waiting

In desperation I did look at the Amazon API but Im not a programmer and I would likely go grey and old before I managed to get something workable

Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated

Answer
Since it's just some API

That means it's not ready to use like DropBox or such. Why not something ready to use or your own cloud?

Thanks for the reply

I'm trying to backup my data off site so a personal cloud isn't going to be useful in my case. nor is using dropbox Sad their pricing is quite expensive $120 per year for 1 tb vs amazon $60 per year for unlimited storage.
In addition drop box doesn't solve my client side encryption issues. I may have to wait for fast glaciers answer it might be a more workable solution for me

Still something odd going on here.

Just last week I picked up a 2TB drive thanks to the CNET Cheapskate for 90USD. Why would we bother with the cloud if we can do our own?

I don't see any Amazon ready to use system to do what you asked so why is that an option? (except for those that code?)

Then where to go next?

I've seen folk want to use that Amazon service a few times but none want to craft the software to make it happen. As my office uses it's own cloud I don't have a reason to write such a thing.

Maybe the real answer is over in those "your own cloud" solutions?

Answer
I see why you can't use Amazon Cloud Drive.
