"Cloud" effect on 7100 series Samsung LED

by larryhy74 / June 27, 2013 8:46 PM PDT

Surprises never stop with my new Samsung 60" 7100 series TV. Have "cloud" effect in corners, visible in dark scenes. Internet research shows this is a fairly common problem with LED TVs, and suggested solutions vary from having tech replace screen to crackpot ideas like loosening screws and rubbing affected areas with cloth. Set is otherwise perfect, with beautiful picture, so don't want to tinker with it dramatically. Would appreciate any suggestions to reduce cloud brightness. i.e, should I increase or decrease backlight setting from factory default of 12? Or anything else?

Hi larryhy74,

I'm sorry to hear about the issue you've been having. May I suggest the following steps: set the TV to the Standard or Movie picture mode; lower the backlight on their TV to 7. (Menu > Backlight > Adjust with Left and Right Arrows ) Also, since this problem can be caused by excessive heat, make sure their set is well ventilated.

Try this for a couple weeks. If the problem doesn't clear up, please let me know!

Thank you. I will try that, but I am not too optimistic. I called Samsung when I first got the set and noticed the cloud and the technician suggested the same remedy, which I tried for a week. It looks a little better - only noticeable on black screen - i.e. end titles of movie. Picture quality is otherwise beautiful and I am hesitant to try anything dramatic that might make it worse - like replacing the screen. Picture mode is standard, backlight is set to 7 and TV is on cabinet with ample ventilation. Set only has about 50 hours of use on it, so maybe needs more break-in time. Will try for two more weeks, then get back to you. Appreciate the help.

This reply is to the Samsung technician who answered my post on 6/28 regarding the "cloud" effect on my model 7100 LED TV. Have tried your suggested solution for two weeks, but cloud remains. Very noticeable on dark scenes, otherwise picture really very good. Have done extensive research on this and found that screen uniformity is a common issue with LCD-LED TVs, so my dilemma is: do I try to have it fixed, or just learn to live with it. If I have Samsung replace screen, can it pop up again in new screen somewhere else? Anything else to try? Is there any guarantee it can be eliminated entirely?Would appreciate your advice. Thanks, Larry

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
