Closed Captioning on streaming

I havea non-Smart Samsung HDTV and a2 year old Bluray and I cannot get closedcaptioning on streaming video. What more do I need to accomplish this?

Other stream players and (of course) the stream sending captions compatible with the player.

While we can guess these are Samsung TVs and Players we can't drill down into this given the detail so far.

My clever and computer-literate daughter told me to get Roku and she added it to my growing collection of gadgets and remotes,but it works! I now can stream and know what all are saying.

Sam's smart hub's goals are well, not what they seem. So I turn off smart hub and get something else.
