Question

Clock forcefully set in the future & apps crashing

Jul 14, 2017 2:46AM PDT

I left my Windows 7 PC on overnight (with lots of apps left open - mainly development IDEs & web browsers). It has latest virus scanner and latest Windows 7 updates (auto-updates).
It shouldn't lock when idle.

When I came back in the morning, the PC was locked. Fair enough.
When I unlocked it, lots of apps were crashing. Then I looked at the clock:

Anyone have any idea why this happened?

Answer
Neat test of web code.
Jul 14, 2017 7:10AM PDT

That looks like a limitation or issue with the code that runs the web page and nothing at all to do with your machine. UNLESS your clock was indeed off.

Clock/time issues are rare as Windows instituted a time sync but some folk turn that off. Also I see it disabled on CRACKED OSes (pirated.)

As it stands, nothing looks amiss on your PC. Just some web site that doesn't handle being open for more than a day.

Is the clock really off in time?

What do you mean by locked and unlocked?

why u have ur automated w7 updater on??? there is NO support for w7 from MS. after getting those needed one (like 200-300 of them) there is no need for auto updater cz MS dont support w7 anymore.
i would check latest updates and in order remove them on by one and check on after every removed if it works. also check latest scheduled tasks if there is any new ones before this issue started.
clock does not do that without an issue by itself. btw on pirate version of w7 clock should work just fine its other issue than there is and more likely some useless update that does not work with programs or tasks that is making this. 99,9% sure this is not clock issue. some update more likely.
updater can also be reason of this cz it can now be left running on loop and can only be shut down by closing and disabling it then shutting pc. then open pc, open clock settings and check internet time and "check now" now ur pc is running in right time but if u shut ur pc without battery u may have to check it when reopened. i hope this works for u.

Windows 7 is still supported by Microsoft for security patches, no longer for feature updates. It's a very bad advice to not apply or remove them.

w7 is still supported.

I saw a big security patch last month. Please update yourself on that topic.

yep i did not made that clear... i didnt mean security! but w7 is not updated. if u find new w7 update please inform cz i cant find even one single needed one.
and if u ask from MS support question for like those crashing issues of few KB* there is no answer coming and never will be. we sure have tried.

Beyond security updates.

There have been minor updates for stability. I've run into folk that want to debate if the update should be on or off. My view is your choice. Here we leave it on and have yet to encounter an issue over hundreds of company PCs.

topic was just missed.... clock issue.
so did loop if present.
so did w7 updater problems. there is no reason to keep that on. u can check them if u like.
sure thing is if u update all from M$ there is no wonder why u have issues in w7... i dont have

I have no issues from about Wxp to W10. But the office is pretty good about hardware and knows not to expect things to work if the date and time is too far off.

that matter is same with many other programs too and games. thats why i told to check clock for internet time from "advanced". takes 2s to do that.
few times seen internet "auto" timing to fail when windows update have failed and left to loop. its not sure thing in this case, but one of many and easy to check so why not. only good answer is that which will work... good day to every one i have to go test my new 2000W electric scooter Grin moves over 50km/h nice...
