Everytime want to copy and paste something I have to have open the document that I am pasting to, other wise the clipboard clears or puts an icon onto the document.

Example;
I am coping from Internet Explorer to Microsoft Word and if I don't have Word open then when I open word, the copy and paste functions may not work. A lot of times when I paste it puts an icon of a disk on word.

This happens on word, outlook.

I am using Windows XP Pro SP2 with Office 2003.

Any ideas on what is causing this problem? Seems like clipboard is either getting erased or when office opens it puts an icon in clipboard.

What happens if you double click the icon?

Does this happen with things like Notepad, Wordpad, or is it just MS Word?

What about MS Excel?

What happens if you copy animage and paste it into MSPaint?

If you can narrow it down to just Word, you may find that uninstalling Word and re-installing from the CD will cure it.

Seems like it mostly happens with outlook. I can't get it to do it with word at the moment. Does not do it with excell.
