Clearing Hard Drive

Jul 15, 2007 11:07PM PDT

I am giving away an older computer, and need to know how clear the hard drive. Is this all I would have to do before giving it away? Is there a way that I can just go in and delete some things rather than clear the hard drive. I just don't want to pass it on with information still present. Thanks

The best thing to do, is sell it sans HDD to be absolutely sure no information is passed along. However, if you look around a bit, you should be able to find some zero filling formatting programs that will be more than enough to stop anyone who isn't a professional data recovery expert from getting at it.

Thanks for the info, but I am no where near a computer expert, so where would I find such a program? Thanks

Two disk wipe utils that show up on the boards on a regular basis are.

Killdisk
Dban

Use goggle....see if they fit.
