cleaning unwanted files from hard drive???????

May 19, 2004 8:06AM PDT

Hi, I thought I'd clean everything up by following the instructions on searching for .tmp files, delete etc. But when I clicked on search, not only did I get .tmp files but also tmpl. Isn't that short for templates? Most of which belong to my Adobe Photoshop, if a template, then am I correct in saying that its not something that I'd want to delete? Is there a way to bring up only the .temp files?

Hi well what I have found effective is to go into windows explorer and look for temp files. It depends on the operating system, as to where explorer is but that's what I do.

Kay,

".tmpl" files are not "temporary files" and shouldn't be deleted unless you want to. Not all machines have that particular file extension on them, but it is fairly easy to exclude them from deletion.

Do the search for *.tmp files and when they show up in the search window, click on "Edit" in the upper left, choose "Select All". All the files in the search window will be highlighted. Now scroll down through the files and while holding down the "Ctrl" key, click on each individual .tmpl file and it will be "un-highlighted". After that, click on "File" in the upper left, choose "Delete". All the "highlighted" .tmp files will be deleted and the .tmpl files will be left behind.

You shouldn't have a great number of .tmpl files so it shouldn't be too time consuming, especially if you use the procedure frequently.

Hope this helps.
