Clean install of XP

by olympiamike / October 31, 2003 2:20 AM PST

I plan on doing a clean install of XP on a new 40GB drive. Should I partition/format prior to the install
or just use the setup program? Thanks...

"Should I partition/format prior to the install

Windows XP supplies such functionality when you install. If you use third party tools to partition and install, you may be less than happy if such turn out to be incompatible or create an install nightmare.

My answer is no. Use the setup program as supplied.

i have a 40 gig with 4 partitions formatted with ntfs... i put the windows xp on first five gig partition... this makes the operating system much faster because all the system files wont be scattered about ... fetching files will be quicker for the system... defrags will be quicker....
