Answer
Did you try Packard Bell's web site?

Mind you, I'm having problems there.

Assuming you are in the US, I can't find a US web site. I seem to remember that PB had some trouble with the USofA some years ago, and they left, but don't quote me on that.

So am I right to assume you are not in the US? If so, head over to http://www.packardbell.com and choose your country. Then find your computer and hit the Support option then "Download Center" for downloads.

But again, here is my next problem. Although I could find Easynote notebooks, (no laptops), I couldn't find the R1000, so does this computer have any other designation, eg a different model number? For example if you are in the UK, does it have an EN number? (I assume EN stands for England).

PB are not making this easy. But if you can navigate the site you may find the drivers you want.

Have you registered your product with them? If so, you may find it easier.

Good luck.

Hi, Thanks for your reply.
I am in England and have tried their web site.
There is no mention of the R1000 at all.
The laptop does not have an EN number but the model is MIT-RHEA-C.
Also it has a P/N PB42B00001.
I don't know if it was registered with them or not.
Thanks again.

I've got to ask;

You said, (to Kees), that this laptop/notebook did not come with any driver CD. You reformatted and reinstalled XP. How did you do that re-install of XP?

The XP CD never has drivers so if you had a genuine XP Setup CD from PB, there should have been a separate driver CD as well.

What I would do. Assuming you have returned this system to PB Factory Default Install, get it registered at the PB web site, PB Registration, and see where that leads to.

Alternatively, give them a quick phone call. There UK number is listed here;

Packard Bell laptop R1000

Hi, thanks for your reply.
The hard drive packed up and a new hard drive fitted.
The recovery discs made when the laptop was bought (there were none supplied.) couldn't be found so a new XP operating system was bought and installed.
I have found some drivers on a web site but now need information as to turning on the wireless function of the laptop.
Many thanks to all who replied so quickly to my query.

I can't find the home page for that laptop.

But many laptops have HELPER APPS that connect some switch or function key to turn on the wifi.

Installing XP from scratch is quite the adventure. Unless I see a step by step, driver by driver and what helper apps you installed, I may not see what you missed.

Not being able to find that laptop at the PB web site makes this awkward to say the least.

But I just had a thought. Those recovery disks are likely to have all the drivers installed on the previous hard disk.

It's a shame you can't find those.

Hi, thanks for your reply.
I have checked their website but there is nothing on there about an R1000.
The laptop did not come with a driver CD and as the laptop wasrunning so slow the hard drive was refornatted and Windows XP reinstalled.
I assumed that I could download the drivers from the Packard Bell website but there is no mention of this model of laptop on their web site.
I will check the answers on Google.
Thanks again.
