Question

Citizen drones..raises ?'s

Dec 25, 2014 7:01AM PST

Privately owned drones, just how far can they be used? Really, would you tolerate your neighbor flying a drone over your yard or area and finding out recording this or that. Would you mind at a public area that drones were being used to survey the area or just getting to flying one. Outside of RC type areas, that RC controlled planes and drones use now. IMHO, the short distance of becoming a nuisance is all to easily reached as well as patience.

As I understand it 500ft. is the max "air space" a home owner has control of and/or their building(s). The FAA rules apply here but drones rise outside of this or hasn't been defined yet or entirely that well.

Maybe, I can use my old Estes rockets to knock one down and thus have a home defense "iron dome" of my own. hahaha! Happy -----Willy Happy

I've checked, John Deere has them:

I'd think drone use should follow the same policies. The sidewalk in front of my house that is on property I fully own and maintain is also for your convenience. You may use it rather than walk in the street where you might get hit. You must respect that your use of the sidewalk is only for you to cross from my property to that of someone else. You may not use it to get closer to my home for any purpose that is not beneficial to me. You may not do anything while on that sidewalk that endangers me or my property. You may not do anything on that sidewalk that obstructs my use of it.

I'd say similar goes for drone aircraft. I don't care if they cross over my property without being a hazard. I do care if the stop an hover or snap photos of my premises. Such would need to be by permission and have benefit to me. If your drone stops and hovers, thus becoming a distraction or annoyance, you are not a good neighbor and I would want the right to bring it down by any legal means. If personal drone aircraft become a problem for private citizens, I can already see a market for electronic hijacking devices that could commandeer them and take them as hostage. Wink

Though I haven't see it yet. I may as i have the farm to test it. I get that feeling at least. Some of these drones aren't that small or what many may consider them to be. Of course, your budget dictates that but even a RC plane can get some things done, just not hover. -----Willy Happy
