Circuit City and 2 plasmas later...

Feb 19, 2006 10:55AM PST

After agonizing over plasmas I finally ordered the Samsung HP4252. It was delivered last Fri. 5 minutes after it was on there was a green vertical stripe 3-4 inches wide on the left part of the screen. The delivery guys said this was a bad plasma. I then decided to go with the Philips 42PF9630A which was the same price with much more connectivity options.

They brought it today and it was a cold day. They let the set warm up for about 15-20 minutes. When they turned it on the red power light was flashing and no piture. They unplugged it for a minute plugged it back in. The green light came on but no picture. The delivery guy said this was another bad set. They took it back.

Now I don't know what to do. Whether to try the philips again or scrap the whole idea. When dealing with these kinds of prices it's a stressful situation. I don't want to spend this kind of money and end up with a turd. Any advice or reassurance would be welcomed!! If anybody has the philips is this normal when you first plug in? Is there something else you can do?

REGARDLESS WHERE YOU BUY YOUR PLASMA OR WHAT BRAND YOU CHOOSE, GETTING A BAD UNIT HAPPENS. PLASMAS ARE FRAGILE AND COMPLEX PIECES OF EQUIPMENT. AS LONG AS YOU CHECK THE UNIT BEFORE ACCEPTING IT, YOU SHOULDN'T BE TOO CONCERN. CIRCUIT CITY HAS THEY'RE OWN DELIVERY DEPT AND THEY CANT CHARGE YOU FOR RETURNING A BAD UNIT.LOOKING ON THE BRIGHT SIDE, WHAT ARE THE ODDS OF GETTING A THIRD BAD UNIT.

I am a big microdisplay fan. Sony Samsung and Mitsu all consistently put out high, high, quality products with great picture. Plasma will be where i want it in about 3 years and thats when I'll get one,

Also you may want to read some of the other plasma nightmares that abound in these forums before your 3rd try
