Circles (a poem in honor of James Kim)

Dec 6, 2006 10:37AM PST

Circles

Most of us spend
our lives moving in circles
not sure of what we always want
or who we want to be. Not so
you

who knew life to mean
a family, a community
where you cared and were
cared for in turn. I imagine
you

in your car; resolved, scared, but your mind
made up. You knew what you had
to do because you knew what you had
been given. Tonight

I read you had moved in a circle
and as I cried I, a father of two,
knew you had moved in the straightest
path you had ever walked

the line that divides each of our souls
and asks the question: have you truly lived?
and we can only hope our choices,
like your own for your family, brings such
a resounding yes, born of love.

Deepest sympathy

As a father myself, it goes beyond words what has happened, but I felt I needed to share something. I "lurk" here at CNET a lot and, over the last week or so, like so many others, my prayers and thoughts were with the family. I hope all of you, family, friends, his entire extended community, know that so many of us are praying daily and sending thoughts of love and grace.
