Alltel operates at 800mhz in the NC area, and Cingular operates at the 1900mhz frequency range in the carolinas, 1900mhz doesn't penetrate buildings as well as 800mhz so the problem in your case is Cingular's signal level in your area, and not the phone. It's doubtful that a Nokia on cingular would be any better. I live in Raleigh and switched to Cingular from alltel also and I have the same problems when I try to use the service inside most buildings. I've used 3 different brands on cingular and all three have had more dropped and failed calls than i ever had with alltel. I'm considering going back to Alltel once my contract with Cingular is over. The motorola v400 that i'm currently using has been the best of all of those phones i've tried with Cingular.
I currently have a Motorola V400 phone on Cingular Service. I live in Knightdale, NC and just moved into a neighborhood with very spotty reception. Where I lived before I had very good reception at my house - just 2 miles away. Previously to being with Cingular I was with Alltel. Rarely did I have a dropped call. But, I wanted to be on the same plan as my boyfriend since we talk the most to each other, so I switched to Cingular. I have many dropped or failed calls now. And when I'm at home sometimes I have a signal, sometimes I don't.... usually I have to walk outside to talk and even that is not very clear. I had a Nokia phone before when I was with Alltel and was wondering if a Nokia might work better for me with Cingular. They have a reputation of being very good so far as reception goes. Anyone have any thoughts about this???
