Cingular SIM Card SMS Memory Full?

I recently upgraded from my dilapidated samsung s307, to a samsung p207. prior to getting the new phone, i never paid much attention to the sim card, as it never posed a problem for me except when my text message inbox was full or 60+ messages and the memory would be full. recently i have found that when i get even one text message i get a message saying the sim card sms memory is full when i receive only one text message. i tried transferring my phone book entries to the phone memory to loosen up some space on my sim card, but nothing seems to work. has anyone had the same problem..or knows of a solution?
