Cingular service for former ATT Wireless customers

Feb 21, 2006 10:45AM PST

I moved to Cingular the week of the ATT takeover. It was total hell. The port software did not work. As a result I had to get a whole new cell phone number. At least I was not charged an early termination fee from ATT nor activation fee from Cingular. The standard line with Cingular is "We're working on it". Sure they are but WHEN!

As a former ATT customer I suffered from their mediocre reception. Until the last few weeks that lousy reception has remained where I live. I have a friend who lives 10 miles east of Council Bluff, IA and my reception was far better. Go figure.

Cingular's customer service hours are also lousy. Yes, you can get to a real human during off hours but 24/7 is a thing of the past with them. You also get CSR's who have no clue as to what they're doing other than reading a script.

The good news is that the rollover feature is great. Because of the poor reception at home I have tons of minutes left. When I am away from home I have little or no problems. Then again reception is problematic with all carriers - it just seems like most of my problems are where I live.

I have been told that Cingular is either replacing 80 towers in Minnesota or updating them. Then again I have been told an awful lot from some of the CSR's. I have a Motorola V551 which is a good phone. The few complaints I have about the phone are regarding the layout rather than the performance.

I will believe it when I see it.
