Resolved Question

Chronic Cyclic Redundancy Unresolved via ChkDsk (XP)

Mar 1, 2016 1:11PM PST

Ive run ChkDsk several times both at DOS Startup and in GUI Modes with "Check for and attempt Recovery of Bad Sectors" selected, but afterwards when my system tries to copy particular files I get the Cyclic Redundancy Error again, and my entire Folder Copy Terminates. Is there Norton/Symantec or other less expensive means to deal with, or workaround this problem besides manually excluding every new file it errors on?

Today, 500GB HDDs are under 45 bucks so risking your files for so little is not a good idea.

As to getting the files out, try Roadkil's Unstoppable Copier.

Roadkil Copies Around Bad Files/Sectors
Mar 1, 2016 7:40PM PST

Yes Im aware, in fact I got a 1TB for $50 Im copying to.

But Roadkil (one L), allows me to chose how to handle each bad file encountered during the copy: Recover Partial File, Auto-Skip Bad File, Try to recover bad files only after all good files have been moved or copied first, # of Recovery Attempts to Try, Etc.

I was also extra happy to see they even provide a Linux Version. Thanks again....
