I assume you are shooting in High Definition (HD).
You are probably on the right track by suspecting the slow memory card.
Shooting 640 x 480 video can be troublesome (on some cameras) when using a slow memory card.
Shooting HD (1280 x 720) with a slow memory card is asking for trouble.
I don't think you can salvage the old video because the SD780 was probably dropping frames because the memory card could not keep up with the camera.
In other words you were not capturing 30 frames per second....likely much less.

Hi all -
I am a bit of a beginner with digital cameras, so thank you for your advice!
I recently took some video with my Canon PowerShot SD780 IS. On the camera screen, they look fine. However, when I download them to my pc the video is very choppy. The sound is fine. The camera downloads the video files to .mov files, so I downloaded the most updated Quicktime player to try and play them but it didnt help. My computer plays videos from my friend's S95 camera perfectly, so I dont think the problem is the computer.
Could it be the SDHC memory card's fault? I believe it is an 8gig class 4 card made by PNY. I'm not sure what his was, but I'm thinking maybe the class/speed is too low which resulted in choppy video?
Any ideas on what i should do is appreciated -- I would love to salvage these videos if possible. maybe converting them from .mov to another format would help?
