choosing digital slr or advanced p&s

I'm taking a fabulous trip and want a great camera with good zoom (200) thinking of Canon Digital Rebel xt...but thinking of advanced p&s like konica minolta dimage. I would like 7 - 8 MP, long zoom,, anti shake, high quality well saturated photos....
suggestions, comments, other alternative?
I use a canon sd300 as my walking around camera
