Choosing a naotebook- dell, sony, ?

Mar 23, 2005 4:24AM PST

I'm looking for my first laptop. I want it for web development, presentations, graphics, video(photoshop, macromedia programs)

I am looking at the Sony VIAO FS550 (1.6 ghz - 512mb RAM) and the dell 6000 -(1.6 ghz - 1G RAM)

Will the Centrino platform run smooth using these type applications? and what eles should I look for? -Any other suggestions for laptops that fit my needs.

That will work good, maybe you should take a look at HPs?

The Centrino / Pentium M are very good processors and should be able to handle just about anything well. Also I have no idea what your price range is but the notebook im looking at, the HP ZD8000 is a multimedia power house. It also has the option for Windows Media Center 2005. I think that OS would work well with you. (But it's $200... yikes). But it has a great GPU and processor (expecially if you liek to do many things at once).

Sony

Centrino platfrom shall do nicely for many applications. I recommend Sony, just not the FS series. If you desire better performance, i recommend the A series rather than FS. I would also upgradew the CPU to at least 1.7 For multimedia purposes, i think at least 1 gig of memory will be better. Also, you shuld consider graphics cards and hard dirve rpm.
