The Canon Rebel 3ti is a solid camera. As a professional, I used my Rebel xti for nearly 6 years before making the upgrade to the 5D mark ii. The rebel is a perfect entry level camera that provides the necessary settings to continue learning and advancing a photographer's skill set. It is easy to learn and I find the Rebels very intutive. The menus and buttons are straightforward and use common terminilogy which is why I like Canon over Nikon.
The rebel is usually only sold as a kit, with the 18-55 lens. The 18-135 or 18-200 are nice as well, but a little on the more expensive side. Sometimes Costco has a good deal on a kit with two lenses. I recommend the 50mm 1.8, which you can find for around $100. The 50mm 1.4 can be found for about $325 and is obviously a step up, but the 50mm 1.8 is my go to lens. I love it. It is sharp and crisp. A bargain for sure.
Unless your GF is shooting in RAW format, a 4gb memory card should be sufficient as well as a back up battery or two. Depending on your budget, a mamory card reader could be useful as well.
Hi
I'm new to this forum but i thought i would ask a question here.
I'm buying My Gf her first DSLR Camera. and need helping choosing the right one. she has taken photography classes and from my perspective is somewhat knowledgeable. I asked her previous photo teacher and she said this.
'' I would recommend an amateur camera thats affordable is the Nikon 40D
or 90D or the canon digital rebel. If you can afford something more
expensive, I highly recommend the Canon Mark II of Mark IV. But it
really comes down to the lenses. You should definitely get a 50 mm f1.4
lens and wide range maybe 18-135 or the 18-200 lens.''
I was looking at the the options she listed and i can afford either the Nikon 40D 90D or the digital rebel Ive been doing some reaserch since im cluesless about photography and after much consideration i came up with this camera

Here are more questions
1 Is this a good first DSLR Camera
she said she would be taking pictures of nature portraits of people animals ETC.
2. What Kinda Accessories should i get her. Obviously a memory card and bag. But as for lenses are the one the teacher provided acceptable.
3 Anything else you think i need to know
