General discussion

choosing a camcorder

Nov 9, 2006 3:07PM PST

I have 3 camcorders in my shopping list. Which one should I pick?

1,Panasonic Camcorder (PV-GS300) 3ccd
2, Panasonic Camcorder (VDR-D300), kind of heavy,3ccd

3,CANON DC?S?O. Can its image quality beat the Panasonic ones?

The PV-GS300.

If you look around the threads here, you will find no (OK, very few) recomendations for any DVD-based camcorders. They have an ease of use factor, but image quality is an issue because of the way the video files get stored on the DVD in the camera.

I cannot find any information on the "CANON DC?S?O" to investigate for comparison.

But before you make a final decision, what will you use the camera for? What sort of video do you expect to capture? What kind of computer will you be using for editing? Have you also budgeted for a tripod and at least 1 extra rechargeable hi-capacity battery?

I meant Canon DC40. Sorry about that.

I'm gonna use the camcorder mostly for travel.I'm not sure if I wanna edit the tape or not.

i think mini dvd is easy to watch, upload to my notebook and be burned into a normal DVD. But mini DV can record a longer time, longer battery time, easy to edit and have a better imagine quality.

Since miniDV tape has superior image quality,

I would stay with the Panasonic PV-GS300... plus, with the 3CCDs, it is best in low light.

But don't take my word for it... http://www.camcorderinfo.com/ratings.php likes the GS300 better than the other two cameras on your list as well...
