That has been pondered before. There will always be a next gen component. You may find the lessor CPU could get you more hours on battery or let you get more basic storage.

Hey everyone!
I'm a college student who already owns a beefy desktop, but I want to get something to carry around on campus with me. I want to use it for taking notes, both typing and with a stylus and using Word. I'm also a music student and would like to load all of my sheet music onto there so I'm not carrying around loads of folders everywhere I go. I was looking into the Surface Pro 4, which I think it's practically perfect for my situation, but I'm not too sure since it's running Gen 6 processors and the one I would get would have an m3. I would dish out the cash for a 2017 Surface Pro but I'm not looking for something super powerful and expensive, just something current that I can use when not at my desktop. Thank you in advance for everything!!
