My thoughts, as someone who works in an internal facing store for a national retailer, where we fix customer and store owned units (my job being to handle Apple desktops, laptops, and displays)... The person who fixes Sony laptops is just a couple of workbenches down from me.
I will preface all of this by saying my experience with Sony laptops is extremely limited, so there may be, probably even, some inaccuracies.
From what I have seen of Sony laptops, they are really no better from any other PC vendor out there. Cheap plastic casing, built using commodity parts, some rather ugly designs IMO, and honestly they seem considerably overpriced for what you get. You can argue Apple is also overpriced, but there you're at least getting an aluminum case which is far more scratch resistant and helps turn the entire case into a giant heat spreader for better cooling, plus a display which is still probably better than any I've seen from a competitor. Also, from what I've heard from my boss' boss, Sony repair parts are absolutely ridiculous in pricing. I have no direct knowledge of what they are, but considering Sony tries to carve out the same high end niche Apple does, I can imagine. So, once your unit goes OOW, it might quickly become the cheaper option to replace it rather than repair it. To be fair, Apple units can be the same way since Apple solders the CPU directly to the boards. Jacks the price up quite a bit.
It is possible to run Windows on a Mac these days, though you have to buy a full retail copy to do so, which is an added expense.
Since we're comparing Sony and Apple I assume money isn't an issue, so based on what little I know about Sony, I'd say Apple would be the better overall choice just because of the better hardware quality. Just be sure to weight that statement appropriately based on the disclaimer above. I have worked on a grand total of zero Sony laptops, so I'm just basing my statements on what I have observed from units coming and going from where I work.
