Resolved Question

Chinese Browser???

Sep 8, 2013 6:09AM PDT

Somehow I have managed to get what I think must be a chinese browser onto my system, running XP.

I use Firefox and that is set as my default browser.

Sometimes it loads up, I know not why!

I would like to uninstall it, but I can not decipher the characters. I do not have the system enabled for chinese characters so just get lots of squares!

Only hint at what it might be are hao123 or baidu.

Can anyone help please?

Colin

now that you got rid of it , you should scan for malware in case any residuals are left over

I did a full malware scan and everything seems to be working OK.

Answer
Chinese browser, or Chinese Home Page
Sep 8, 2013 5:39PM PDT

Are you sure you mean a Chinese browser?

May be you mean your browser "Home Page" has been changed to some Chinese web page?

If so, just change the home page back again.

Re: uninstall

Did that Chinese browser infect your Control Panel (and the Control Panel applet to uninstall programs) also? Or is that still in English? In that case, you might be able to uninstall that program the usual way?

Baidu is a leading Chinese search engine. But you might know that already.

No Control Panel is not in English for this application. I have tried to uninstall it by guessing! But that didnt work.

No I didnt know what Baidu was.

Not sure that makes sense

There is only one Control Panel in Windows, so if the Control Panel is in English then you can find Add/Remove programs to uninstall this Chinese browser.

If the CP is in chinese then this malware has run deep into the OS.

But I am still not sure of the basic problem. I asked if this really was a Chinese browser, or just your normal browser's Home Page had been changed.

I didn't understand your answer, "If only it was that easy........"

Hi mark

My browser is working correctly, that is Firefox. I also have Internet Explorer loaded which I do not use, but that works correctly.

Sometimes when I am doing things, I cannot explain exactly what, it opens this other damn browser which is the Chinese one.

It probably got downloaded when I was mucking about with a Sports streaming app.

So when you say change your home page, I do not need to do that, as all is OK.

When I go into Control Panel which is in English and click on change / remove for the browser I want delete, name is just a bunch of squares, the next window that opens is just a bunch of question marks, so I do not know which buttons to click. THese squares and question marks are obviously because I do not have chinese characters on my machine.

So as I said I do not know what to do next!!
