Here's a dubious milestone that says a lot. Welcome to the new order in the world.

SHANGHAI (AP) -- General Motors Co. says its first-half sales of vehicles in China overtook the U.S. for the first time amid a fitful recovery in American demand.

The 1.21 million GM-brand vehicles sold in China in January to June -- a near 50 percent gain over a year earlier -- compared with 1.07 million sold in the U.S. market, according to figures released separately by GM's U.S. and international headquarters.

if the cars are still made in the US and shipped over. Are they?

If not, the companies will still state it's a good thing as the profit returns to the host company. Good for the share-holders, executives, but anyone else?

Might not be as good as you think

Chances are that few of the vehicles were made in the US.
Might be good for corporate GM, but little else.

in China as in the USA. So, per head, the USA still wins by a big margin.

Maybe, in 15 years or so, we'll read "More Chinese cars than GM cars sold in the USA". We'll see.

Maybe we could give them Chinese names.

That might make them more appealing. Just need to be a bit careful about their culture and superstitions such as numbers that are lucky or unlucky.
