Chicago shootings

Aug 8, 2019 5:36PM PDT

Are these shootings all over the city or just in certain areas over and over?
Are they gang related?
Are they just random?

As I noted, many (most?) are on the South Side,

virtually segregated. Black on Black crime the socioligists call it.
To the amazement of many, guns continue to flood in.
"Gang related" is almost a joke. Not much but gangs there.
Poverty, lack of education, peer pressure, hopelessness ...
President Bob, what do you intend to do about it? At least you're asking for information. Good.

I would have to learn what Chicago the city is doing about this problem.

If the city asked for help I would consider it.

Well, Chicago the city has been the poster child

for political corruption. 'Vote early and often, Chicagoans!' The title Alderman (their name for city Councilman) likewise.
Chicago P.D. had a unit that devoted itself to putting Blacks in jail. Not criminals, Black youth. The old "confession" route. 'How come my client has those injuries?' 'He fell down on the way to booking.' Years in jail for no crime committed.
And for those who look to pop culture, it's the only P.D. that has always refused ridealong requests from "Cops".

I have heard of recent initiatives to reach out to South Side youth. Given the background, I find it amazing that the resource officers have found some to talk to. All of us, especially the next drive-by victims, hope it helps. Give those guys- not the P.D.- federal money would be my suggestion.
President Bob, just got this note from Treasury. Between natural disasters and wars on several fronts, there IS no money. Unless you cut some pork barrel projects.

Chicago is Chicago. Maybe try a small, more tractable place first. In my small-town New Mexico county we have a meth problem. We know where the makers and dealers are; in a barren area in the north section. But our local police and sheriff can't mount the coordinated raids needed. Periodically the State Police help, and it works. Federal money would be a big help. Last figure I heard was a million dollars a year to hire and support one sheriff's deputy.
Breaking Bad, set in Albuquerque, was popular with many people, including here. But not with anyone involved in the criminal justice system. They thought of it as the only show with all bad guys.

it's easy to cross into Indiana and acquire weapons so guns are not in short supply. There has also been an almost direct pipeline to Mexico where mules bring in the drugs. I don't think there's a question as to whether or not the shootings are gang related. Some are random but most have a connection to drugs or other vice. Chicago is a very multicultural city with somewhat segregated populations from many parts of the world. Chicago is said to have some of the toughest gun laws in the country but ranks above most in gun involved crime. Some have suggested that laws sometimes produce more criminals than they do law abiding citizens. If that's axiomatic, Chicago is part of the evidence for it. As for having help from DC, you know what that means. You don't ask for help if you're not willing to have your helper do it their way and not yours.

When 'your way' hasn't worked

for so many years and you have one party controlling that way since 1931 forward to today, it's obvious why they don't ask for that 'other' way help.
