Resolved Question

Checksum of a DVD/CD-R

May 28, 2015 10:14PM PDT

So if I were to burn a CD/DVD ISO, could I then checksum the resultant disk, and would the checksum of the disk be related to the checksum of the ISO?

Why not?

That is, this would be an easy thing to try out. One could also make an ISO from the resulting CD/DVD and then compare the files.

What I find is that most folk need to read more tutorials about making the DVD/CD as well as how to get the PC to boot from such. After that, some OSes don't support a part of the PC such as WiFi which can be confusing to some.

Oh, Booting isn't a problem

I'm a Linux guy, I can boot a CD-R(W), though DVDs are more problematic, probably because I don't have any DVD-RWs newer than about ten years. Should really fix that problem...

DVD booting is harder by a notch.

I've run into PCs that won't boot DVD in spite of having a DVD drive. DVDRW adds a little more iffiness to whether it will boot. When I see boot issues I clean the lens, try again, then try DVD+R then DVD-R. If that fails I try another drive. Drives are far cheaper than tech time.
