If you mean indexing as applied to a hard drive, then checking, i.e. allow indexing, may slow down the OS, but make searches faster. Some reading HERE.
Will checking the Indexing box make indexing run better?
Will checking the Indexing box index the right things and not index the contents of system and program folders?
This is why I ask:
Indexing appears to be currently functioning, I mean, it works for me. (I like indexing) I noticed Computer > Right click C drive > properties > General Tab > near bottom that ?Indexing? box is unchecked. (yet indexing seems to be working fine) I figured I better check it because I assume it is suppose to be checked. So I did. A little pop-up progress box came up. The box appeared to show indexing progress. I saw it going through program folders and system folders along with legitimate folders to be indexed. (Acer has apps not in normal program and system folders) I do not want system and program folders indexed. So I unchecked the box immediately which stopped the indexing in system and program folders.
Is it safe to check the Indexing box or will doing so index program and system files?
