Question

Check disk froze

Jun 28, 2016 11:51AM PDT

Hello
I was having some issues when backing up my data, a BSoD was showing every time, so i ran a chkdsk and when i restarted the pc, it ran the check and froze at 14%. It's been for like 40 minutes now, and I'm afraid that if I hard reboot the pc, something wrong will happen to the hard disk.
What shall I do?

Small world

Over the past year I've seen a lot more BSODs that were traced to failing drives.

If it's frozen for that long it's hung and it won't matter if you hard boot. Now I could write about backups but I'd replace the drive and restore from backups. The old HDD would go in some USB case to see if files can be copied out later.

Thank you R.Proffitt
I did a hard reboot, and it's working fine. I'm just confused how I'm gonna back up the files. every time I try to copy/paste them, or use a syncing app, a BSOD appears!

Is there a code to that BSOD?

And try a Safe Mode Boot with Networking for a copy pass.

do you mean my internal hard drive, or the external?

Save back and forth posts.

Just tell both. If the OS drive is a seagate, I'd just replace it given last year's run of them.

i forgot the brand, but it's not Seagate. as for the external, I've tried 2 WDs, and 1 Transcend.

It would be interesting to know it's a Yugo sl14 with a Blue Version of Windows 7.
