Cheapest Macs Project

Mar 13, 2007 2:46AM PDT

Hello

I might be asking for too much but I want to find out which country in the world sells the cheapest Macs. The tax and all that should be included.

Now what I have planned is that each of us contribute to this 'project', by choosing one country and finding out how much tax is applicable, how much export duty there might be etc and then find the total cost of, say, an iMac 20" in USD.

Then we can make a list and keep it up for reference for people who might want to buy a Mac and might be traveling abroad. This idea came to my mind, when I realized that there is quite a big price difference between different countries.

The Macs cost unholy expensive over here where I live. For some reason, other manufacturers like HP, Acer etc sell for normal human prices but Macs sell for almost 50% more.

A major reason why I want all of us to help is because the place where I live in has no Tax, yes no tax. Just the list price. So I really don't understand the system of tax at all. Its all quite confusing and stupid to me. I dont know how to find out tax rates of particular places. Its all quite confusing.

I can contribute if someone can 'teach' me or give me a small lecture about taxes. Otherwise I will ask my cousins in Canada about how much a Mac would cost including tax and export duty and all.

Thank You

This idea came to my mind when I remembered that my Dad goes to annual meeting to some country. He is going to Greece this year.

It will not only help me but others who might be in a similar situation.

Dubai is the city. You might have heard of it.

This has been going on since the days of Apple II, I have heard.

Nevertheless, they are too expensive for me to buy over here and in this case, Windows DOES look much more attractive to me.
